Russell Alexander
 

In 2003 Rev. Alexander founded Children In Crisis and serve as its Executive Director. He served as youth pastor at Greenville AME Zion Church and Prior to this position, he was the Youth Pastor at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church as well as the youth pastor at Reeder Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte for 10 years. He was born in Charlotte Mecklenburg County and reared in Southside Homes Community. After obtaining a high school diploma from Myers Park Senior High School, Reverend Alexander served in the United States Marine Corp for 7 years and later served 3 years in the US Marine Corp Reserves. After which, he attended in the Interdenominational Theological Center (lTC). He is currently attending Belmont Abbey College and majoring in Theology.

Reverend Alexander is an insightful visionary with a strong love for children. This gift has afforded him the opportunity to organize and establish a nonprofit youth organization that benefits youth in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. The program focuses on 3 main areas:         

  • Preparing for Excellence through Literacy (Improves reading skills)

  • Gangs of a Different Color (enhance social skills, talent development)

  • Rites of Passage (build self-esteem and supports community involvement)

In his mission for children he has established other programs that have reached new heights, such as: 

  • Boys Scout Troop 130

  • Community Drama Club for Youth (youth wrote/produced 3 original plays)

  • Christian Youth Athletics

  • Christian Youth Worship Service

  • Annual Back to School Workshops

Believing that the call of God includes a call to civic improvement and responsibility, Reverend Alexander has served in the following capacity:

Reverend Alexander is married to Shonja Alexander, a 4th grade teacher at Highland Renaissance Academy and Co-founder of Children In Crisis Network, Inc. Together, they are proud parents of Jada Ra-shaune and Omari Drovon. Reverend Alexander is also the parent of Russell, Natashia and Edward Alexander.
